Circulation Policies

The circulation department maintains the following policies in order to ensure the smooth functioning of the library.

Who Can Borrow

Fort Lewis College students, faculty, and staff, Colorado and Four Corners region residents (18 years and over), and students registered at Colorado institutions of higher learning may check out library materials. All non-FLC borrowers must provide their driver's license and a piece of mail confirming their address in order to register for checkout privileges. Parents may add their children, who are under 18, to their FLC library card in order that their children may check out materials. All borrowers must provide an email address at which they agree to receive notices.

ID Policy

When checking out items, all patrons must present a current Fort Lewis ID card or Fort Lewis Library Card. If you do not have your ID with you, we can place your items on our hold shelf for you for 24 hours.

John F. Reed Library Materials

The fine for Course Reserves is $1 per hour (max $20.00 per item). A hold will be placed on your account and you will not be able to borrow, renew, or request materials if your overdue fines total $25 or more.

Interlibrary Loan (ILL) Materials

Current students, faculty, and staff members may order materials through Interlibrary Loan. Overdue fines are $1 per day. You will not be able to borrow physical materials if you have any outstanding charges on your library account. Electronic resources may be requested if your overdue fines are less than $25.

Visit the Prospector/ILL web page for information and policies regarding these services.

Lost and Damaged Item Fees

Reed Library, Prospector, and ILL Items more than 45 days overdue are considered lost and are billed for replacement. The replacement fee is $100.00 (or more) plus a $25 processing fee. Unpaid accounts will be sent to Student Billing and Cashiering*. Once a billed item has been sent to Student Billing and Cashiering*, refunds will not be made even if the item is returned.

* Please note that all accounts are subject to billing through Student Billing and Cashiering, including community borrowers.

Reserve Materials

Reserves are items designated by faculty as short-term checkouts. Individual items are listed by Instructor and Course name in the FLC Catalog accessed from the Library Homepage. Circulation staff will retrieve materials that are located behind the Circulation Desk. A valid FLC ID must be presented to check out reserves. Each item has a loan period established by the faculty member placing the item on reserve. Loan periods range from two hours to three days.
