  8. RMA Annual Statement Studies Ref HF 5681 .B2 .R58
  9. Almanac of Business and Industrial Financial Ratios Ref HF 5681 .R25 .A45

RMA and the Almanac provide columns based on size for better comparisons. The Almanac also provides more data on operating costs. More industries are covered in Industry Norms than the others, but it lacks the comparisons by size.

The classification system, devised by the US Dept. of Commerce, is a numeric coding system of products and services. The code is hierarchical with additional digits providing more specificity. Companies are often assigned a primary code as well as additional ones if relevant. To find the code for a particular company, it is easiest to use Ward's Business Directory. The following reference sources use the code for indexing and organizing information. The SIC code is now beoing replaced by the NAICS code. You will likely need to refer to both during the transitional years.
