Books
Library Catalog, found on the top menu bar of the Library's Website, is used to search for books, audiovisual (including video) materials, and periodical titles located in Reed Library. Note: for articles within periodicals, search a database. Example search on exercise and physiolog*
Prospector is used to extend a search for books and audiovisuals to other libraries in Colorado. Prospector is a "unified" catalog for searching and borrowing books in over a dozen Colorado libraries. It an easily be searched at the same time you search the FLC catalog. From a list screen in Talon, click the Prospector button at the top of the screen. The search is done automatically using the last search.
Worldcat is the most exhaustive search for books. This database combines the collections of thousands of libraries, mostly U.S. but including some outside the U.S. as well. Interlibrary loans can be requested directly through FirstSearch by clicking "ILL" on the citation/ item screen.

- Physical Education Index Online - "These abstracts feature a wide variety of content, ranging from physical education curricula, to sports medicine, to dance. Other coverage includes sport law, kinesiology, motor learning, recreation, standardized fitness tests, sports equipment, business and marketing, coaching and training, and sport sociology/psychology. Health education and physical therapy are also covered as they continue to become more prevalent in our society."
- Medline on FirstSearch is the comprehensive source for journal literature in the medical sciences. Many of the journals are intended for the medical profession, particularly physicians, so keep that in mind in terms of expectations for level of specialized knowledge.It also includes some of the literature of the allied health sciences. PubMed Medline) provides a a free, open access version/ interface to the Medline database, but it is harder to search. It has the advantage of having a detailed guide to the Medical Subject Headings (MeSH). Medline uses a very specialized, controlled medical terminology, so be sure to use Subject Headings when searching through either database.
- PsychInfo is useful for topics related to psychological aspects of sports, exercise, or wellness. Be sure to make use of the Subject Headings tab for finding terminology.
- ERIC, Educational Resources Information Clearinghouse, is a database of journal literature as well as materials from educational institutions not formally published. Search this for topics related to K-12 and postsecondary education , e.g., school sports and coaching, college student attitudes towards health and fitness, etc.
- Biological Sciences on CSA covers physiology, and may be useful for searching related topics.
- Academic Search Bibliographic citations with abstracts from scholarly and popular, general interest and multi-discipline - literature, psychology, engineering, physiology, and other fields in the humanities, social sciences and the physical sciences. Includes full-text of articles for over 3000 periodical titles. Coverage is primarily from 1980 - current.
- ingenta accessed through the Database Searching page or directly to http://www.ingenta.com/ (no restrictions for searching)
ingenta is a broad database covering all disciplines as well as popular information. The database is created from entering citation information for articles in the tables of contents for over 17,000 periodicals received in libraries nationwide. Words can be searched in the title of the periodical or the article, but articles are not indexed using subject headings or added keywords. Ingenta offers fee-based document delivery requiring credit card payment. Interlibrary loan through the Library is the advised option for obtaining the articles at no cost to you.

Interlibrary Loan
- Interlibrary Loan is a library service available to borrow books and receive photocopies of periodical articles not available at Reed Library or available through Prospector (books only). There is no charge for the service.
Allow about 1 week to receive materials through Interlibrary Loan. Occasionally, it will take longer, so order well in advance.
Be sure to verify that we do not own the material you are requesting. You can accessCLiO though the FLC Library Home page - Select ILL from the menu bar..
Remember to first try Prospector for books and E-journals for periodical titles for articles. It can be accessed through the Library catalog or Library Home page under Books.
