Finding a Book
Use the Library Talon Catalog to find almost all materials, EXCEPT periodical articles, in the Reed Library's collection. You can get there from the Library's Home page by clicking anywhere on the Toad (recognize him from the library?).
For a map and guide of locations in Reed Library, click on Library Locations. The map is of the main floor and shows many of the locations for books not located on the 2nd floor where most of our collection available for loan are found. Be sure to check if the book is located in the Center of Southwest Studies, Oversize, or Reference, or even Storage.
- The most common search is the WORD search for a subject or title words.
- See the Guide to the Library On-line Catalog for detailed information on how to search the catalog.
- If you don't find what you are looking for, you can continue in the Talon Catalog to search in many Colorado research and public libraries. In Talon, on the result/ browse screen, click the Prospector button and your search will be transferred to a combined catalog for many libraries in Colorado. You can even order directly from the catalog record in Prospector.
- WorldCat, found on the Database Searching web page, is another resource for searching and ordering materials in other libraries.
- Be sure to ask at the Reference Desk for assistance. We'll be glad to help. Or go to Ask a Librarian for help through e-mail (possible 24 hour response time).
For more information on requesting books not found at Reed Library or through Prospector, see InterLibrary Loan (ILL).
