Classification Systems order the arrangement of books or other materials on shelves. LC classification starts with letters and subsequent lines are a combination of numbers and letters. Click on this link for an outline of the classification.

Most items located in the library are shelved according to the Library of Congress Classification System.
Service desks in the library include the Loan/ Check-out Desk and the Reference Desk. The Reference Desk provides assistance for the Periodicals Collection. The Library staff will be glad to help you with assistance.
Selective list of locations Talon, the Reed Library Catalog:
- 2nd floor - books too large to fit on the shelves in the stacks on the second floor.
- Reference Shelves, Reference Desk, Reference Law Collection, Reference Desk CD-ROM, and Library Web site.
- Library Web site - on Library computer workstations, some are available campus-wide, through network, or unlimited.
- Reserve - call for at the Check-out desk.
- Oversize Book and Over-Oversize Books - Main Floor, west side.
- Videos - main floor to right at entrance.
- Periodicals - magazines, journals and newspapers in print and microforms, now located on main level. For most titles, ten years is available. Older Issues are in Periodicals Storage and can be requested at Reference Desk.
- Maps - file cabinets and map drawers north east main floor.
- Atlases - atlas stand northeast main floor. Atlas shelves are now located between the maps and Atlas stand for specialized smaller atlases.
- State Documents - main floor, by east stairs to 2nd floor, shelved by Colorado State document agency and number.
- Music Listening Rm 1st fl - music CD's, cassettes, vinyls, main floor.
- Juvenile Books (2nd flr) - children's literature, 2nd floor south east room.
- Periodicals Storage - lower level, call for at Reference Desk.
- 3rd floor storage - 3rd floor. Ask for assistance at Check-out Desk.

**You can use the library catalog to locate useful materials available for you to use in the Southwest Center. Books on the Southwest that can be checked-out are located in Reed Library.
