Library Research Instruction
Tier I Freshman Composition Integration

(Implemented Fall 2007, revised Spring 2008)

1 hour of class time and 1 hour of outside work, taught in conjunction with the required introductory composition course (Comp 126, Comp 150 or ILP) and other freshman learning clusters.

    Competencies: Pre-research Level Resource Awareness
  1. Orientation to the library and its collections in the context of college work.
  2. Awareness of specific library services and research tools.
  3. Initial ability to evaluate the relative value of types of information. Introduction to the differences in information needs and communication standards.

Assessment: Students will complete an online tutorial, a self-guided library tour assignment, and an in-class information retrieval assignment, which will be included in course syllabi. Students will demonstrate an understanding of appropriate sources for academic work.
