Types of Databases: The two lists above include both types. Be sure to select a database type appropriate to your need for periodical articles or a reference source. Click on the 
icon to identity the type and content for each database.
Periodical Databases are collections, predominantly, of journal article citations; many, but not all, contain full-text articles or link to the full text. Some are specialized, others are general. Some contain a handful of titles, while others contain thousands. The American Chemical Society Journals Database contains 22 journals specific to chemistry. Academic Search Premier includes articles from 4,500 journals with subjects such as anthropology, literature, psychology, engineering, physiology, and other fields in the humanities, social sciences and the physical sciences.
Reference Databases are collections of background or factual information, such as would be found in a reference book such as a handbook, encyclopedia, dictionary, or directory. These resources are generally not read cover to cover, but are used to look-up specific information or an overview. Some examples of general reference resources are Books in Print, Encyclopedia Britannica, Oxford English Dictionary and Ulrich's Periodical Directory.
Journal Finder: Search by title or subject area for all locally available journals or magazines in electronic or print format.
360 Search is a library search engine for searching several Reed Library e-resources at once. This is a good tool for beginning research. With a single search it can look at a variety of resources and provide a sense of which databases offer the most on a topic. However, for in depth research it may be more effective to search individual resources, as they tend to have more features to create better searches.
Internet Reference is a collection of free, internet resources in a variety of areas.
